April Happenings

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month and we have a lot planned for it! CJ’s Patisserie, The Junction, Ken’s Bakery, and Red Rooster Coffee House have all graciously offered to show support by having teal bakery items throughout the month. The color teal represents Sexual Assault Awareness. You might also see the local boutiques advertising for Denim Day. Every single boutique (wow!) will have a sign and jeans on display. Don’t forget, Denim Day is April 28th. We are so appreciative of our local partners who help share awareness.

We’ll have representatives at the Student Center at Northern State University and the Saint Stop at Presentation College talking about about sexual assault awareness, as 1 in 3 undergraduate students are sexually assaulted. There will be a wreath where students can pin a ribbon on the wreath if they know someone who has been sexually assaulted, as a way to show the overall impact of sexual assault on college campuses. CHS will have jeans hung up around the building advertising for Denim Day as well.

It’s also Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month.

The Child Protection Team in Aberdeen will be hosting their Hot Dog Fundraiser on April 30th from 11a-2p at the Market Place on Main Street. They have also planned other events throughout Aberdeen to show their appreciation to organizations who help raise awareness and prevent child abuse. We’ll be doing more on Child Abuse Prevention Awareness in May, so stay tuned.

We value ongoing education.

Andrea, our Shelter Coordinator, and Kaitlin, our Youth Outreach Coordinator, will be headed to Las Vegas for a week to receive ongoing training for victim advocacy. We wish them a safe trip! Continuing education allows us to better serve our community.
